Personal Data Breach Reports Jump 46%, Hacking Behind 6 in 10 Cases

Personal data breach reports increased 46% last year from a year earlier. According to investigation and sanction cases disclosed by the Personal Information Protection Commission, hacking was the cause in six out of ten breach cases. The total amount of administrative fines imposed by the commission approached 167.7 billion won. The disclosed cases show that companies and institutions need to strengthen systems for constant personal data management and incident response.
