Opposition Deputy Speaker Race Narrows to Cho Kyung-tae, Cho Bae-sook and Park Deok-heum

The race for the opposition-held deputy speaker position in the latter half of South Korea’s 22nd National Assembly will be a three-way contest among People Power Party lawmakers Cho Kyung-tae, Cho Bae-sook and Park Deok-heum. The People Power Party plans to hold a general meeting of lawmakers on the 13th to select its nominee for the deputy speaker post. The deputy speaker is a key member of the Assembly’s leadership, chosen according to the distribution of posts between the ruling and opposition blocs during the latter-half organization process. This vote will proceed as an internal People Power Party contest, with the three lawmakers now confirmed as contenders.
